At Ohio University’s Professional Actor Training Program, Alex began teaching ‘Acting Fundamentals’ in objective, actions and scene analysis for two years to undergraduate non-acting majors. He continues teaching today and is en route to completing a Level 1 Teaching License for middle level Drama through the state of Vermont.
Today, Alex is a Teaching Artist at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts* and has taught Introduction into Acting and an Audition and Monologue
Bootcamp. Alex’s Performance pedagogy is expanding to incorporate not only objective, super objective, moment before, and actions but also Konstantin Stanislavsky’s ‘Etudes’ (a french word derived from the verb: Etudier, which means: “to study”). This is all through exploring Objects, Animals and then finally moving into the actor’s self and character explorations. What the individual student actor chooses to explore for that class is limitless. These performances are a psycho-physical exploration with flexing the imagination in order to gain further understanding of who he or she is. While studying with the Moscow Art Theatre School, Alex was inspired by their approach that an actor must learn the limits of his instrument (on all levels) to then discover how he can then use it to play himself. The progression then ends with Character Etudes from plays. This is all done through lab performances in front of me and the class.
